Forty-two hours is so not enough JMD time. But, it’s all we had, so I’ll take it. Haven’t been out to dinner Midtown for some time, so we ventured forth last night to try out Zocalo’s. Unfortunately, the entire under age 35 population of Sacramento was there ahead of us. We were told we had an hour wait, so we grabbed out little buzzer and headed to 58 Degrees & Holding, the Definitive Wine Destination, the new place down the street as the Mariachi band headed toward Zocalo. We had a lovely glass of wine, and headed back to find that no one had moved from their table and we had an additional 45 minutes wait ahead of us, so I suggest Aioli Bodega Espanola, a Spanish restaurant on the next block.
This was definitely a great choice. Without reservations, we managed to get a table for two and an old-school European waiter. I had forgotten about the differences between career waiters and the “servers” found in American restaurants. Attentive without being cloying, I requested a wine and he said, “No, I’m going to bring you this one, it’s much better.” Somehow, he had this air of authority which could not be denied! It had actually been my original choice, but I had changed my mind due to the price! I was glad he made my decision as it was a delightful Spanish red that far surpassed most by the glass wines in Sacramento. The menu was excellent and I know any of the choices would have been as good as the meals we chose. It was nearly 11 by the time we finished for the night and headed back to the childless-casa.
Thanks to two very fine families for hosting my children for the evening! In fact, Emily is still not home having attended services at the local MCC church and then off to the Native American festival in Sacramento. Can’t wait to hear how that was. I know my weekend was just as wonderful as I’d hoped it would be.
I believe that to truly Love, is the ultimate expression of the will to live. A heart that
truly loves is forever young.
truly loves is forever young.
