Perspectives

I had to go take some staff photos today over at the capitol building.  So, the two young women I was shooting were walking behind me a bit, talking (because who wants to be yacking with an old woman like me?).  One says to the other, “Yeah, we had a fire in our house when I was like 19.  Mom was making french fries and walked away for a couple of minutes, and while she was gone, the grease started a fire in the kitchen.”  The other one turns to her and says, “Oh, that’s too bad.  Were they homemade french fries?”

Which reminds me, we all look at things from different perspectives, don’t we?  We take one piece of information that holds the most interest for us, and discard the rest.  This happens all the time when I’m talking to one of my friends.  I’ll say something like, “I made a doctor appointment today.”  She’ll respond with something like, “What kind of car does your doctor drive?”  I never have the answer.

It kind of makes life interesting—trying to understand those differences.

There are things I can't force. I must adjust. There are times when the greatest change
needed is a change of my viewpoint.
