Rock The Vote

All bright-eyed-and-busy-tailed, I jumped out of bed this morning in anticipation of rocking the vote.  My absentee ballot never reached me this year, so I took the little card I got after re-registering and popped over to the local polling place, which in California, is just as likely to be in some guy’s garage as a public location like a school or church.
Of course, they had me down as an absentee voter, so I had to complete a “provisional ballot” and the associated paperwork that goes with it.  I completed my voting and went to the volunteer.  The forms were verified and my affidavit signed stating I hadn’t voted already.
My ballot was inserted into a blue folder, sealed ever so officially, and put into some volunteer guy’s valise.  I was confident that with such high security for the provisional ballots, my vote is sure to be counted--or would be found six months from now along with a stale and moldy peanut butter and jelly sandwich when he declutters his briefcase
But, the non-provisional voters had it way better…I’d been watching all the voters complete their voting and then watched as the volunteer put their ballot into this wacky machine...and pulled the handle…it looked a lot like this.  I hear that some say that lots of these machines experienced difficult today all over California, but, this one seemed to work fine from the view I had.
The people who cast the votes don’t decide an election, the people who count the votes do. ~ Joseph Stalin
