I’ve been here in California for over six years now. It’s kind of hard to believe, and it is a record for me. Occasionally, I’ve contemplated moving elsewhere where traffic and prices aren’t quite as manic as they are here. I start looking at jobs and housing prices and learn all I can from afar and sometimes even go visit the places to check them out.
What I learned was:
The desert sucks.
Humidity sucks more.
If there is no ocean within a half day’s drive, it’s out of the running.
If more than half the male population is named “Bubba” or “Junior” forget about it.
If it requires me to own a snow shovel, I’m not interested.
Despite the crazy housing prices, the $6 per pound bacon, the million dollar gallon of gas, the traffic, the people everywhere, the insane politics, and the tax upon tax, I just can’t think of anyplace I’d rather live than California. I think I’ve become an official Californian.
There is science, logic, reason; there is thought verified by experience. And then there is California.
