Woo hoo! Yesterday, Viv turned 127 years old! Okay, she won't let me tell you exactly how old she is. I was so happy she decided to drive up to my place for her birthday dinner. She was ecstatic that I was cooking, so she didn't have to cook. Her frig is full of frozen dinners and sandwich stuff. Her kids are grown and she's always on the go. She doesn't cook. I whipped up this little seafood deal I do and even baked her a chocolate cake, despite my threats to appease her desire for seafood by opening a can of tuna and putting a candle atop.
Her contribution to the evening, besides her sparkling company, was some wine. I was ga-ga when I saw the 10-Year-Old Tawny Port in the bottom of the bag. If she wasn't already my best friend, I'd have fallen in love. I was surprised by this contribution since the last time she drank Port was several years ago (also with me, there is no pattern here, really) when she overluxuriated in Port's magical powers.
Our evening was full of laughter and reminiscing. We talked about our past dating escapades (you don't win "Wiener Wednesday" on 100.5 The Zone for nothing), lamented our current situations, listened to some great tunage, and inevitably compared failing backs, eyesight, and our perimenopausal conditions. We partied on into the night--okay--we stayed up until 11 pm. A perfect Port ending to a perfect day. So, here's to you, pal, on your birthday--may we share many, many more together!
Here's the analogy. If my body were a car, I'd be thinking about trading it in around now. I would like to upgrade. I would actually be on the lot somewhere and some guy with a loud sports jacket would be sizing me up...kinda lookin' around goin'--maybe kickin' my knees. Looking behind me going: "That looks a little bashed in back there...Yeah. You mind if I check under the hood?" Well, yes, I do! Thank you very much! ~ Ellen DeGeneres
