After a two-month wait, I now have a gate on my fence. Thanks, Harry! And, unfortunately, allergy season has arrived in the Central Valley. I wish I could just park my sinuses and nose in the freezer for the next month.
Harry served in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive in 1968. Kids today probably don’t even know what that is, but I remember it vividly, being reported by Walter Cronkite on the evening news. Just about everyone I know who served during that time, whether they were truck drivers, intelligence analysts, or infantrymen, were deeply affected by the “conflict” in Vietnam. I can’t help but feel our president is hanging our current fighting men and women to dry with VA services stretched way too thin, and creating chaos for families and our injured service members. If ever there was a time to write your Congressional representatives about these outrages, now’s the time – regardless of how you feel about the war. We owe it to those who have served faithfully in our service.
Which gets me on my high horse—thinking about our president and his utter lack of credibility or integrity. My blog brother, www.redhogdiary.com, has discussed this on his blog frequently. My sister is currently overseas at an undisclosed location participating in a large military exercise of multi-national forces. She has had an opportunity to speak with several people from many European countries who have strong opinions concerning who is leading the USA. And, Bill Clinton is held in much higher regard than our current scourge. My sister said one of her Euro-colleagues said, “Clinton, he was a good president. The infidelity was not such a big deal. The lying was not so good.” The perception, apparently, is that our current president lies so much, we have no way to gauge what is actually the truth. This blurring is so severe, I now believe nothing coming from Washington. What is it going to take to bring this regime down? Had any other president in the history of time been so duplicitous, he’d have been forced to resign—oh wait, seems we did that with Nixon, didn’t we? And that was just over a little lie about break-in shenanigans.
I’m a proud American, a proud veteran, gay person, a parent, a tax payer, member of a multi-racial family, and I’m just a little tired of every group I am affiliated with being beaten down and disenfranchised by those elected people who are supposed to be serving the interests of all Americans, not special interest groups, lining their own pockets, or advancing a so-called “moral agenda” that fits only for a few, to the detriment of the many.
A competent leader can get efficient service from poor troops, while on the contrary an incapable leader can demoralize the best of troops."
