Yesterday, my blog discussed doing the right thing and standing up when we see injustice. My story about Roxanne Topping seemed to fit amazingly well with the theme, despite the 33-year distance I've put between then and now.
I also called upon Roxanne, wherever she was, to contact me should she ever run across my story. Well, less than 24 hours later, she read my blog and e-mailed me. She asserted that not only did she not remember me, she did not remember the event. And, based upon that outcome, she assured me my daughter would be fine also. Oh, and her hair was still fabulously red.
I was grateful the event did not impact her going forward in her life. But, we are the sum of our experiences and because the event did occur, and she did experience the cruelty, I can't help but believe that it did impact her in some way. Perhaps by increasing her resilience, perhaps by closing off parts of her forever. Perhaps by just adding to the sum of experiences both good and bad. I don't know.
My apology was sent and I can close that chapter and take with it all I've learned.
Be excellent to each other
