Rain, Rain Go Away

I’m figuring I better stop down to the local Bubba’s Build-Your-Boat Center on the way home tonight so I can make some headway into building my Ark. It’s time I think. I knew something was up when pairs of assorted animals were spotted wandering the streets over the lunch hour. Thought for a minute they were the usual lobbyists and hangers-on who are oft spotted on any given day near the Capitol, but sure enough…lions, tigers, zebras, and even a little pair of out-of-work spokesrats from the now defunct Quizno’s Spongmonkey commercials were aimlessly meandering up and down the streets of our fair city looking for shelter. They need an escape from the rain, just as I do. The rain is not going to stop.
Let’s talk, shall we? Did you like the Quizno’s Spongmonkey commercials (view here)? If not, you are in for a treat. Poor little out-of-work bastards. I know it’s been almost two years since they aired, but I can’t get their squinty little rat faces and googly eyes out of my head. They have talent, I tell you. Come on—admit it, you didn’t mind the thought of vermin trying to sell you on a visit to a restaurant, right? You didn’t think of little rat droppings in with the olives, right? And, what gifted musicians they were. Their voices were just as truly wonderful as Whitney Houston on crack, right? The subject of debate was whether this was an instance of marketing genius or a desperate attempt to send some poor schmuck’s career toilet-bound. Quizno’s pulled the ad because of its "polarizing" nature--people either loved it, or hated it. Too bad—I was breathlessly waiting for the Quizno's kid’s meal featuring the Spongmonkey toy. Those guys can hang out on my Ark anytime.
In other news: Rep. Tom DeLay’s (R-TX) resignation announcement brightened my dour rain-soaked mood. One for our side at last. And, a big one. In contrast, Huffingtonpost reported the nuptials of former GOP strategist and current FOX News Analyst Dan Senor and NBC correspondent Campbell Brown. Comments posted to the announcement, by supposedly soft-hearted liberal readers, was scathing and sunk to despicable personal levels. Doubt seriously if anyone commenting had actually met the folks in question to make such judgments. The diatribe was so venomous, it even made Broadsheet—a feminist, liberal blog on Salon.com sick. Wish our side could always take the high road and maintain our façade of self-righteousness.
A shocking crime was committed on the unscrupulous initiative of few individuals, with the blessing of more, and amid the passive acquiescence of all. ~ Tacitus
