Since the inception of e-mail, which was touted as a tool that would enhance every business, increase efficiency, and improve profit margins and revenues, life has not been the same. I spend hours every day answering the barrage of e-mails I get from subjects ranging from finance to lease issues. About the only time I get a phone call anymore is someone calling to see if I got their e-mail.
Lots of companies, including mine, have e-mail policies that restrict the personal use of e-mail. But, far and wide, employees find a way to skirt, avoid, or downright break those rules. Not me, of course, I follow the rules all the time because I’m management, dammit.
My friend Chris, who runs an IT department for a financial institution, got an email today that by subject appears quite official—his comment: "WTF-My work in IT is never done!" He, of course, then forwarded it to me, and I, of course, read it, and put it here. That’s three people not working due to one e-mail. And that doesn’t include anyone reading this blog. And this same type of thing is going on all over the country on business hours! No wonder the Chinese are rocketing past us as a world economic giant—it’s all because they have truly restricted Internet access!

And, of course her name is Heather. If she’s not blonde now, she will be soon. I’m sure this is why I always have to stand in line so long at my bank—everyone appears to be updating accounts and entering ledger items at their computer—but in reality are e-mailing throughout the office to get the latest scoop on TomKat and confabbing as to whether Mandi (with a little heart over the i) in New Accounts is going out with Bob, the really cute loan officer, because they stand just a little too close.
Okay, got to cut this short, have to go check my Yahoo! Mail! And, Heather…honey…go ahead, you’ll like the new look and it will be way cooler for you this summer!
