It’s a beautiful, cloudless day and tonight will find me at The Crest Theatre enjoying comedian Kate Clinton and seeing some of my friends.
Tomorrow, I’m off for the lovely town of Modesto, California to help a friend of mine move. Modesto is located in the Central Valley of California and, until the housing squeeze squeezed everyone out of the cities, was mostly a sleepy suburban/rural area. It’s one of those places that people say, “You’re going to Modesto? Why?” Honestly, the reason is guilt. “Quid Pro Quo” on the moving thing. And, there was that whole “her car was stolen in my driveway” thing too. I shoulda’ been Catholic. Modesto is also the setting for the infamous “Lacy Peterson” murder in 2003, which is the first thing my cousin from Iowa said when I mentioned where I was going. Who knew what a far reach a single, and pretty routine, in the scheme of murders case could have on an entire country.
This past week, there were demonstrations against immigration reform throughout the US. In Sacramento, several thousand demonstrators paraded through the streets near the capitol building. I was able to get this shot from my office window. I have a definite opinion on this subject, but I think the bottom line is this subject will hit hard and heavy during the upcoming elections.
